I would check your boot drive for disc and hardware surface errors. My
machine started becoming unstable (FF2 for instance was doing some very
curious things) a while back and I traced it to a dodgy drive.

I did a disc verify and after 10 disc errors I decided that it was high
time for a new disc. Mine was a Maxtor 80 gig replaced during the
warranty period due to oddities. It was thus around 3.5 years old (my
Iyonix is from Dec 2002).

I managed to format the drive and copy most things across the network to
a RiscPC with the new disc in it (it was easier to put it into the
RiscPC than dismantle the Iyonix).

One plus point is that the new drive is a 7200 rpm one (as opposed to
5400rpm) and this seems to have made the Iyonix faster. The speed up is
very welcome when running Firefox.

I suspect that more Iyonix owners will start to suffer HD failures as
the oldest machines are now 4+years old.

At the same time as I bought the HD I got a new PSU just in case however
I have not had to fit this as the new HD cured my problems.
