That's a very important test.  Fetching by IP address confirms
that the fault is not with the NIC, as that would affect layer
1 and therefore everything.  Fetching by IP address but not by
name confirms that the fault is with name resolution.

Forget the power supply (for now, anyway!) as the cause.

How can name resolution take a long time to start up, or even
fail to work at all?


if the resolver module is given more than one address, it tries the
first, till it times out, then the second, then the third, etc.



this points to the first named resolver not currently behaving correctly perhaps

Does anyone know how the Resolver module works, in particular
what it does at start-up?
