I still suspect it is the power supply voltage on the Iyonix as it has a
history of causing problems with initialising ethernet.

When I had a faulty power supply I managed to borrow a digital
volt-meter (thanks Charles) which showed that the 5v rail occasionally
ducked below 5.06v, but not always.

Further it was evident that the ethernet connection had not started by
using these commands in a task window:

  help ether.

The trailing full stop is mandatory. The response shows the commands
that can be given and the suffix letter for your ethernet module. This
will lead you to the next command

  EKinfo 0

The trailing ' 0' is mandatory. This will show you the status of the
ethernet connection. Use this second command immediately after a cold
start and it may well show you have no ethernet connection; if so, I
would suspect the power supply.

(In my case buying a new power supply solved all these problems.)
