The best I have had is about 500kB/s on my iyonix on a 7+Mb/s sync -
using FTPc to transfer a file - and I find that my laptop transfers at
similar speeds to my iyonix.

That was a good week and I don't get anywhere near that now on either
machine. At the moment I'm lucky to get 200kB/s still syncing at
7+Mb/s (except for the BT speedtest using my laptop which says 6+Mb/s
and that test speed stays fairly constant).

It seems to me that the speed you actually get from ADSL max is up and
down like a yoyo it makes little sense what speed you actually get.
I've had weeks where I can transfer at between 400 and 500 all day ie
there was no difference during peak periods and others where at peak
periods the speed virtually grinds to a halt.

The only explanation I can think of is that BT keep moving around the
good bandwidth to stop people leaving ie a few weeks of the good
speeds make you forget the many weeks at poor speeds :-)
