Contention explains why speeds drop in the evening and it's a fact of 
life I accept.  It doesn't explain vast differences between the BT 
speedtester result and the result from my ISP's site.

Which says to me that just quoting a result from a random download may 
be rather simplistic.

This is what I've been wondering.  Processor speed/OS/browser all seem 
to play their part.  Typically I can get an extra 20% from FF2 on the 
Iyonix than from IE6 on on Win98SE on a P11/450 machine.
