Precisely the point I was trying to make - it doesn't.

Equipment temperatures normally rise with time after a piece
of equipment is switched on (until thermal equilibrium has
been reached).  If something goes wrong after a period of time,
we need to be sure whether it's the on-time that has caused it,
or the temperature rise which has occurred in the same time.
