Idiot (but not a gambler either, only on certainties) speaking:

I knew this was not going to be simple as I had updated my Printers
application over the years to incorporate working versions of BJC 5500
and PostScript drivers. Daringly I decided to install the latest
version, noting in the process that I have neatly separated out
loadsaversions from previous releases from 1.67 to 1.91 32 bit.

Here's my notes:

         ------------ Start of Notes ------------

Trials to get Printer going using 1.74 and print from Netsurf
  -------------------------------------------------------------

  1. Old version was 1.71 in !Boot - !Run configuration, but using
later components and said 1.72 on the icon bar.

  2. Changed !Boot - !Run to 1.74 (which I had previously downloaded
     from ROOL).

  3. Rebooted Iyonix and check to see if working OK on (a) PS and
     (b) Canon A2 printing.

  4. Problems:
     (a) Error message on Boot:
           Printers: Modules.RemPrnMsgs not found
And it was not there either
So downloaded the v. latest version from
          http://www.riscosopen.org/content/downloads/desktop-zipfiles
called it 1.74b and tried again.
     (b) With 1.74b I got this error message:
           Boot.^.Printers_1_74b.!Printers.!Run not found
Quite true, all those sort of file were missing: Boot, Run,
         Sprite, RunImage.
So I dropped the new version of 1.74 on top of the original
         1.74 and re-booted.
Interestingly the ReadMe file did not mention this
complication though it did say that 1.72 was the last stable
         release.
     (c) Then back to problem (a) so copied in from 1.73
     (d) Then module PDumperCX not found, so copied this from 1.72
Finally Printers 1.74 started! Now for testing:
         (i) Printed a PDF to PS OK.
(ii) Printed from NetSurf worked OK!!! (Slow)

         ------------ End of Notes ------------

And I had not proceeded to test on the BJC 5500.

You will see from the above that even the first hurdle is not
appropriate for an idiot, you cannot download a working version of
Printers from the ROOL site. I suppose I ought to put in a report on
that.

But, that said, and provided one can install GutenPrint, proof of
concept is done and printing can be made to work from some cobbled
together latest release from ROOL (plus Gutenprint).

Hopefully the ROOL download site will get updated and this idiot will
then be able to do a more intelligible guide to printing from NetSurf.
