Further update in my attempts to upgrade my Iyonix Linux installation
(still hoping to find some other users out there) ...
Have managed to get the sound card working thanks to a tip from a
local Linux buff.
The sound card device is loaded with the kernel, but you have to add
yourself to its user group to access it.
Log in as root and type
adduser username audio
The card will now play wav files, eg the log in and logout fanfares -
but I can't get audio from the CD drive or play MP3s.
The news in another part of the forest that a new Linux kernel may in
the offing can only be good news. I have the Debian Sarge release,
kernel 2.6 on a PC and all the the setting up of devices, joining
groups and mounting the device is done automatically.
This incidentally will read my Nokia phone and Canon camera, both with
Samdisk memory cards, which I still can't do on the Iyonix - says it
doesn't know the filesystem type
