Thanks to all those who replied, we suspect the problem is the network
cable from my router to the PC, it's quite a long cable and goes into
another room, and there is a part of it which looks a bit suspect
where it's got a bit squashed where it's had something heavy put on
it, so a replacement cable is probably worth trying there I think.
