I have been lucky in that I have two drives and <touch="wood"> no
problems like this which, reading this list from its inception, leads me
to believe you have a duff PSU.
In your position I would invest in a new one.

He has his finger in hard drive manufacture (as well as nearly everything
else on the planet) so if the drives are out of spec, he's probably to
blame. ;-))
