It is at least conclusive that way. Mine 'died' very very very slowly -
the only real clue was the increasing incidence of 'disc' errors on
writing files. Took me aaages to diagnose what must be the problem, and I
must have wasted days of time in recovering from the later stages. 

New PSU (from the in-stock shop) at it has been fine since.
