No. In my opinion what's off should be OFF. Nothing is 'on standby' in
this house, unless it can't be avoided.

I think you're right. I remember seeing an old(ish) reference to tests
of an HEC-300LR-AT on some website somewhere yesterday (can't find it
anymore now... :-( ) and it was considered quite good. They're not
mentioned on any of the websites of local shops I looked at, though.
