Hi all,
Does anyone know if there is a maximum line length to entries in the hosts
file (BootResources:!Internet.files.hosts)?
I've got a local server entry with numerous aliases configured for it.
However, I've just added a new entry (taking the line length over 255
charactesr) and now the entire line is ignored.
On removing the new entry, all the other aliases start working again - so I
presume there must be a 255 character limit or something....?
More than likely.
IIRC the limit prior to 'select' for various things like command strings is
240 Characters!
There are all kinds of systems with different limitations depending upon
requirements and the flavour of the day, and whilst approx 256 is
common, I'd caution you to avoid any generalisations here.

response)
