Thanks, Doug, I have had similar experiences in the past resulting in 
replacing the PSU last year. I'll check the 5V level again soon.

No matter, as I can now again write to and read from the Iyonix 
freelist from the Iyonix! (There are other computers here which could 
serve, but the setup is on the Iyo).

*ek. [*ekinfo] now gives unremarkable output (spooled for reference). 
If the failure recurs, I will compare its output as you suggest. If in 
the future I come to suspect the ethernet chip, is it easily replaced?
