sorry for not returning your call

this sysctl suggests the internet is not starting, or that something in boot.predesk, prior to SetUpNet alphabetically, is faulting.

IF it reoccurs:

do the escaped to get to desktop.

do F12 the *ek.

if it reports etherk present and OK with link, then suspect something earlier in the predesk boot sequence. If *ek. fails, then suspect something to do with the ethernet chip.

you might like to try this with your machine working to see what you get when it is OK

No recovery from this was possible. The only way to get a desktop was to hit Escape during the earliest part of the boot sequence, whereupon a mode 28 screen appeared with msot functionality intact, though clicking on !Boot to check configuration would only give "You cannot configure this machine". And I think the internet functionality was missing.

Miraculously, things started normally after about the twentieth cycle, but I'm worried about a recurrence since I have no idea what could have caused the errors.

Has anyone any advice on this sort of problem?
