Some cheap KVMs do not provide the response on the lines to the machine
that are expected.
The sort of behaviour you describe happens with various PCs on some KVMs.
It tends to depend on how fussy the machine is.
Perhaps the Iyonix needs an OS modification to ensure that the system will
start with a specific port setup if nothing is detected
