Thanks for your response! So, apparently our ISA 2004 RTM on Win2k3
Sp1 does not utilize ADAM, and we are 'in the clear'...regarding ADAM
aspect.

Will be testing next week!
Goodbye!

If you don't have ADAM, this issue doesn't affect you.

Subject: [isalist] Re: Windows 2003 SP2 and ISA 2004/2006 EE

Hello,

Thanks for the info, I have viewed

1) "Release Notes for Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2"
2) "SP2 Readme"
3) "Windows Server 2003 & Windows XP x64 SP2 Overview"

But alas, I am still confused :(

Our ISA 2004 is only ISA 2004 Standard SP1 (running on Win2k3 Standard SP1) with no ADAM
listed in the "Add/Remove Windows Components" Another 2003 R2 Server does
contain ADAM listed, but the check box is *not* checked. This all leads me to believe
that we are not using ADAM anywhere on the Domain.

Question: Is installing ADAM SP1 still necessary prior to installing 2003 SP2,
in our scenerario?

Under, "Preventing the issue" it mentions to update ADAM to SP1. This does not apply to
us since we are not using ADAM correct? =) If we wanted to use ADAM in the future after 2003 SP2
is deployed, is uninstalling 2003 SP2 then necessary? -- As mentioned under "Correcting the
issue" Therefore is it advisable to install ADAM/ADAM SP1 to avoid having to uninstall 2003
SP2 in the future? Even though we are not using ADAM, but may in the future?

Thanks for any input!
Edgardo

For those of you who are considering deployment of Windows 2003 Sp2 on
your ISA 2004 or 2006 CSS server, you better be reading the SP2 relnotes
(you better be doing it anyway, yanumpty).
       The short story is this:
If you install WS03 SP2 over ADAM RTM (as is delivered in ISA 2004 &
2006 for WS03 RTM & SP1), you will break ADAM. This does not occur if
your ADAM instance was installed as part of WSo3 R2. Otherwise, you
*MUST* get and install ADAM SP1 before installing WS03 SP2.

You can get ADAM SP1 (already part of WS03 R2) here:

You can get Windows 2003 SP2 here:
       http://www.microsoft.com/technet/windowsserver/sp2.mspx

You can check out the readme here:
       http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=75002

You can get the WS03 SP2 Relnotes here:
       http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=75107

       Ain't life grand?
       Jim
