ISA won't try to dial-up if the connection is already active, swo you won't see
that conflict.

Subject: [isalist] Trigger Dial-up Connection on ISA Localhost

Dear Jim,

1) Thanks and I could make dial-up per scheduled task with rasdial command
2) As ISA is configured to trigger dial-up to external network automatically,
I am wondering if redial shall be configured at dial-up connection setting
because there is possibility for ISA to trigger DUN at time of redial startup
   which may cause connection fail...
If redial at dial-up connection is checked, can I uncheck auto-dial option
   at ISA management console?

Thanks,

Roy Tsao

P.S.: DDNS is applied, it is not issue to discuss.

#1 - You don’t need a batch file; you can enter that command directly into the
task. Since the dial-up connection stays active, it’s expected that the
scheduled task doesn’t stop.
#2 – configure the dial-up connection to redial if connection dropped and use
the dynamic DNS solution for the destination.

Dear Jim,

1) Only one command in batch file: rasdial ConnectionName UserName Password
2) I am talking about Wan connection through Dial-up at server side.
It is ADSL and local ISP reset active ADSL connection every 48 hours to
change public IP address as dynamic.
If the reset occurs in the night time and no dial-up trigger, I could
not access to that ISA box from my side. So I would like to know
how to trigger dial-up on such situation.

Thanks,

Roy Tsao

Roy,

A1 - without seeing the cmd script details, I can't answer that
A2 - it's not clear if you're talking about the client or server side of the
VPN connection with regard to the IP address change?

If the VPN server IP changes, you'll have to use a dynamic DNS service to
ensure proper name resoluton. and use a name; not an IP address in the
connection definition.
If the client IP address changes, you'll have to open the VPN acess to any
remote IP address, or if you can get the IP range from the client ISP, use that
list.

Jim

Dear Jim,

Thanks a lot for your quick response.

It is one of ideas I also have but problems are:
  - when create scheduled task by running rasdial command in batch
file, the command keeps running when I test that batch file
  - The connection is PPPoE, local ISP reset/refresh dial-up connection
by assigning new dynamic IP address. If this occurs at time of
no client connection, how to ensure dial-up on ISA?

Thanks,

Roy Tsao

Create a scheduled task that runs on startup and use the information in this
TechNet article:

Subject: [isalist] Trigger Dial-up Connection on ISA Localhost

Hi,

ISA 2006 SE was deployed in remote side with Dial-up connetion.
All of clients are shutdown in the night time, so there is no active
connection from local network to outside then no trigger of dial-up
connection to ISA. When ISA is reboot at such time, connection to
ISA gets lot as ISA has no dial-up network.
My understanding is that localhost communication to outside does not
trigger dial-up connection, right? If so, what is your kind suggestion
to make ISA have dial-up without any connection request from local network.

With best regards,

Roy Tsoa
