You don't need to make the ISA firewall an authenticating SMTP relay. Its just one of many options. You can use it for: * inbound relay * outbound relay * inbound and outbound relay * authenticating inbound relay * authentiating outbound relay * authenticating inbound and outbound relay Depending on your requirements, the ISA firewall may or may not need to be a member of the domain. If you need to make the ISA firewall a member of the domain, then make it a member of the domain, and create the appropriate DMZ for it. If politics prevents you from securing your organization adequately, then you'll have to make your decisions based on that. What are your requirements? Why use the ISA firewall as a relay at all? Why not use a dedicated SMTP relay? Most secure config is to make the ISA firewall a member of the domain, put an SMTP relay in an anonymous access DMZ behind the ISA firewall, and configure the anonymous access DMZ SMTP relay to forward mail to the Exchange Server, using SSL and authentication. I want that ISA should be responsible for all outbound and inbound SMTP traffic. In addition Exchange should send outbound mails to ISA, NOT to external network. Must I configure SMTP Virtual Server on Exchange so that it sends all outbound mails to ISA server (as Smarthost)? Other configurations on ISA or Exchange necessary?
