I don't know much about RAS, but is it normal that the ppp adapter is 'attached' to the 192.168.42.0 subnet? All the rest seems all correct to me. I don't have any idea whats wrong. The strange thing is that you said that ping from subnet1 to subnet2 works, but not the reverse direction! Do you have any packet sniffer available? Maybe you can verify how far the packets are going...
