Hmm...
That's interesting.
I had one of the Exch test leads in my lab last Fri (until about 1930) and
he verified that regkey was needed.
This is the doc that I followed (and he modified slightly).

Hi Jim,
I didn't have to make any changes on the GC. HOWEVER, I ignore the
Exchange team's recommendations to put the front end Exchange Server in
the DMZ. I prefer to put my personnel and private financial databases in
the DMZ ;-) I think the GC Registry entries support the "extend the
domain into the DMZ" folly, although I can be wrong, since this whole
thing is the result of empiricism.

It's a new Exchange feature that requires:
W2K3 / Exch2K3 on the server side
W2K3 GC in the domain
WinXP / Office 11 on the client side.
Quite a few funkey registry settings on the server, GC and client.
It works pretty well, too from my limited testing...

Where do I read about this function?
I mean what it is and does.
Since the worm, ISPs are still blocking the ports and or protocols, and
VPNs don't work well or even at all with satellite internet.
I may be needing to justify Win2k3 and Exchange 2k3 to the powers at be,
if it gives us back FULL Exchange functionality over the internet.
What clients does it take to make it happen?
All that good stuff.

It actually is pretty simple, once you figure out the requirements. The
problem is there isn't anything very coherent in the public domain that
provides these. I'll feel like a big hole in the earth is going to be
filled, based on the number of newsgroup and web hits I found on the
subject with people claiming they couldn't get it to work and that its
impossible.

and Server Publishing Rules!
Tomorrow I will publish the first document in the world that shows you
how to make it work!
I think the problem was that no one could find the "open a port" button
