Hi John,

I can't say I know for sure, but a lot of these "bailing wire and
cotton" protocols allow the NIC to have a non-valid address and then
"ride on top" of the Ethernet connection. The dreaded PPPoE works in a
similar fashion.

As I was admitting I may not be much help here. But, I am unsure why
your
Satellite NIC indicates a 169.254.x.x IP. That is private IP addressing
as
if it can't obtain an IP address. Just an observation Benard. Maybe
these
other folks can give some direction on it. Sorry.
