RE: OT:RE: National ISP Decision

AT&T WorldNet works great for us here (about 150 accounts for the sales and
service personnel for access to our corp VPN on the road). Good number of
POPs (worldwide, not just US), good speed, and I've never ever had a problem
with the AT&T dialer software. Actually, the dialer software is one of the
things that the users like most about AT&T since they've always got the list
of phone numbers, and with the new software you can even check to make sure
the number you're calling is local before you dial (great for those small
town hotels that charge 2.00 a minute for long distance!)...

I personally like that I have the ability to administer our AT&T dial
accounts as well (suspend & resume service, change or reset passwords,
etc)... Been with the AT&T WorldNet service since it was IBM Global Network
service...

We don't use AT&T's mail system, so I can't comment on that, but they have
been top notch otherwise.

I've been happiest with Earthlink and AT&T. Don't use their software though!

My personal preference is Earthlink (even though they are owned by SPRINT
and I HATE SPRINT) as they are a pretty open ISP (i.e. I can access my pop
EMail from non Earthlink connections, etc).

AT&T usually has good performance, and as long as you don't use their
software it works well. I find it a pain to not be able to get my AT&T pop
mail when I am connected via a non-AT&T connection though. Webmail is
available, but not as convenient.

Of course, at the other end of the satisfaction spectrum sits AOL, MSN, and
Prodigy. Never, ever, even consider them.

I know that this is not the intended topic for this list, but I couldn't
think of a more knowledgeable and experienced bunch of people to ask than
you. I'm sure that most of you are network administrators (or better) and
you have had to make a choice about a national ISP for your traveling users.
I've been asked to evaluate ISP's and decide on one for my company. It
needs to be reliable and they need to have a local access number just about
everywhere in the US. If you can brag about your ISP, can you please do so
to me? I'm really just starting out on this quest and I'd value your input.

Thanks!
