Re: Mail Server Behind Isa firewall

I have to say I wish more school teachers would read and apply that.
All I hear from my daughter is how her one teacher doesn't answer questions
and leaves the class alot.
Makes me quite angry to her the story's.

Nice read Thomas, thanks.

Hi Jim,

But that will break our Socratic method of ISA Server support
completely! :-)

Grab http://isatools.org/isainfo.ex_.
It'll parse the ISA settings into a file that you can post for review.
It'll be much faster than bouncing ISA configuration questions back and
forth.

I am somewhat in the same situation as "Billbo", although I am receiving
mail, I do not know if I have setup the DNS properly, or if I selected
the
appropriate protocols when I ran the mail wizard.

I did try to follow Dr. Shindler's info in his book "ISA Server 2000"
but
found it confusing for a small network novice.

1.) Network Environment:
ISA setup as standalone on a dedicated win2k server (no DNS, IIS or
anything
else on the ISA box).
Two W2k servers, both configured as Domain Controllers, both with DNS.
One as an Exchange Mail Server, the other as File, Print, DHCP, and
WINS.

1.) In DNS, I added an A (Host) record as mail."domain".com with the IP
address of the ISA's external NIC.
2.) In DNS, I added a MX (Mail) record as "servername"."domain".com with
the
IP address of my Exchange Server.
3.) I requested my ISP setup on their DNS the MX record and a
mail."domain".com URL pointing to my external nic's IP address.

QUESTIONS:
1.) Do I need the MX record on my DNS (or is just having the ISP host
the MX
record on their DNS sufficient)?
2.) Since the ISP used mail."domain".com rather than the actual mail
servers
servername, I the A record also as mail."domain".com on my internal DNS
correct?
3.) What are the appropriate "Mail Wizard" protocols, for an Exchange
Server
5.5 (and how do I now change them)?

Thanks

Q1 - from where?
Q2 - have you created the proper DNS records for external mail?
