Intrusion Detection - Snort

I have been looking at the Snort intrusion detection software and some of
the add-ons that are available and I quiet like the look and feel of EagleX
by www.engagesecurity.com <http://www.engagesecurity.com> which is a front
end interface for snort.
My question is, where abouts should I put this piece of software, on the
firewall itself or behind the firewall ?
EagleX also installs an Apache web server and MySQL so that you can view the
alerts a lot easier, and I was a bit afraid to install on the firewall
directly.
