Internet Security Systems Protection Alert February 3, 2005

UPDATED: Multiple Vulnerabilities in Cisco IOS

Summary:

X-Force is tracking multiple vulnerabilities that affect Cisco.s
Internetwork Operating System (IOS).

UPDATE:

These vulnerabilities have the potential to allow an attacker to
remotely compromise a Cisco router, or to cause operating system
reloads. An attacker who successfully exploited these conditions could
gain full control of an affected router. In addition, if operating
system reloads were caused in succession, a long-term denial of service
(DoS) condition could be created.

Business Impact:

Cisco routers are used to relay information across the vast majority of
networks, and are a key portion of the core infrastructure of most
networks including
the Internet at large. A denial of service attack against Cisco routers
could
Result in large-scale network outages on either side of the affected
router.
Network outages of this nature would affect all business processes
relying on networked
technology. Remote compromise of routers could expose significant
amounts of
confidential information.
