I'll test that too on my side. That would really suck if that's the case...

I have done some testing and if I have a mailbox on an exch server and then make it a
front-end, it still work fine and the user still has access to their mailbox but, I can not
add any new mailboxes to that server. Bummer!

I have no idea why the article would say that, but I see what you mean...
I'm thinking it's because it covers both Ex2000 and Ex2003.

But, I've done it several times before personally, and have not had any
issues. Have you at least tried it?

Just go to the Servers container in System Manager, right click the server,
go to properties, and check "This is a front end server" in the General
tab. No need to move the boxes. Note that you can't select this option on
a cluster node, but if you had a cluster, you'd be sharing the cluster
resource instance anyway...

Really, how do I go about doing that. In the Sybex Exch2003 manual I have it
says to move all mailboxes off
a server before making it a FE.

Cheers
Eric

http://www.ISAserver.org

Indeed. You are no longer bound to having a non-mailbox-hosting server in
Ex2003 in order to make it a FE server as you were in Ex2000.

Hey Tim,

Does that mean the FE in Exch2003 can host mailboxes?

Thanks!

FYI- In Ex2003, you don't have install a separate FE server
as you did in
Ex2000... You can just set one of the existing ones as a FE
server in the
server properties.

Hi Eric,

That's right. You'll need to bind a second address to the external
interface.
