Re: ISA Logging to Oracle 9.2 database[AV Scanned]

Hi Steve,

I'm installing Oracle for windows on a machine now.
I'll have your answer later. I still would not log directly to Oracle
unless you need some real time data of some type.

Joseph

Hi Joseph,

I Don't think that this applies. Just trying to log to Oracle, not
provide access via ISA.

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,
I also think that Oracle uses different ports then SQL (1433, 1434)
see if this link helps:

Hi All,

Well that didn't work. I reset the LogDate & LogTime to varchar. Still
no logging to Oracle.

I know the structure on Oracle is OK because I can use an access append
query to copy the information in from both access and SQL Server.

Of course if Microsoft gave the option of logging to a syslog
server.....

Joseph,

Yes it could be. I seem to recall we had the same issue with our syslog
server writing to Oracle. I will change the field to varchar, and make
use of the sysdate facility (That's what it's there for I suppose).

Our SQL Server is the real thing not MSDE If I go the trigger route,
then I will bung it into Oracle and drop the row from SQL server

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,

I'm downloading Oracle 10g now. I'll have it setup later today and
convert some of my scripts out on Jims site to use Oracle. I have Oracle
on
solaris but
will setup an instance for windows.

There are some other options as well:
1. Have ISA write those out to text files
2. Convert the scripts that I have out on Jims site to use Oracle.
3. Strip out the comments from the text files as written and then
bulk import into Oracle.

MSDE has a 2gb limit on size so that could be a problem if you
use that with Access. I really think that it's the issue with how the
date and time fields are working with logging directly to Oracle.

Thank you,

Jospeh

Hi Joseph,

Just downloaded that one and will try soon. So far I have tried

1. Oracle 9.0.2 driver from the Oracle Client CD.
2. Microsoft ODBC driver for Oracle.

Neither one works from ISA server, however access can read & write to
Oracle through both drivers.

If I set ODBC logging to Access I get logs created from ISA
If I set ODBC to SQL Server I also get logs created from ISA
If I set ODBC to access which links via ODBC to Oracle then nothing is
produced, even though access CAN write to Oracle.

We are currently logging to SQL Server, but most of our expertise (to
say nothing of all the other log databases) are stored in oracle so we
really want to log to oracle.

Currently considering using a trigger in SQL server to forward the rows
to Oracle. Hell of a sledgehammer to crack a Nut.

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,
Have you loaded the right ODBC driver for ORACLE windows?
http://otn.oracle.com/software/tech/windows/odbc/index.html
A lot of times one driver won't work with sql, access etc.

I would create all the columns, in oracle to be of mixed case with
at least have them all variable length fields and allow nulls for each
field. Because of the differences in date and time fields try and make
those fields alpha/numeric as well.

HTH,
Joseph

Subject: [isalist] ISA Logging to Oracle 9.2 database

http://www.ISAserver.org

Hello All,

Hope somebody can help here.

We have an ISA server, configured to log to file. We would like to
configure it to log to Oracle. (Oracle 9.2.0.4). I have meticulously
followed your tutorial and while ISA server starts up and runs, we get
nothing written to Oracle.

The only service configured is WebProxyLog.

ISA server is running on Windows 2003 server.

Oracle 9.2.0.4 is running on Windows XP (SP1)

ODBC works I can access my Access database and manually add records -
these records then appear in Oracle.

I restart Web Proxy Service and it starts successfully, however nothing
ever gets written to Oracle.

I have dropped Oracle table and re-created to obtain mixed case column
names.

I hope that you can help.

Best Regards

Steve Fenwick
