The Microsoft IIS Logfile Format is easier on the eyes for SMTP Logging,
assuming this is a win2k box.
Cant send mail. No errors? Queues in retry? Sounds a LOT like MTU
size. Have a Linksys router?
Can you "manually" send email with telnet? Can you configure Outlook
Express to use that same smarthost?
The Pix/Netscreen <one of them> can turn off the EHLO commands, so in
Exchange set the SMTP Connector to use HELO instead of EHLO.

It is not a filter problem perse, rather a protocol response problem. I
am
not sure on the technical details but it has to do the HELO and EHLO
commands.
I think the command is smtp fixup (on/off or true/false)
