RE: Exchange 2000 OWA

Hey Thor,

I've received this e-mail in the past in regards to setting
authentication for OWA.
Although he said there is KB about it, I never found it.

"On the c:\program files\exchsrvr\exchweb folder the authenticated users
group needs to have Read & Execute, list folder and read selected. This
should be the default.

Now for the virtual directories. Permissions for these need to be set
from with the Exchange system manger (server\protocol\http). If they
are changed from with IIS manager, they will be overwritten every 15
min. by the IIS Metadatabase.

The Exchange virtual directory should have permissions of Integrated and
Basic selected. This is the same for the Public Virtual directory.

The Exchweb virtual directory permissions should be set from IIS snap in
as they are different. it's permissions should be anonymous and
integrated.

This info is outlined in a KB article although I don't have the number
in front of me. Hope this helps."

Best regards,

Chris

Hey John- I was not really correcting your post, I was just using it as
an
interjection point...

But, when you set authentication for a node in IIS, regardless of where
it
is in the tree, IIS lets you apply the authentication setting for all
child
nodes... You can certainly have different modes within a tree
structure,
but my main point was to give a head's up to folks that setting the
authentication for the Exchange node in IIS does not always mirror the
setting of the authentication mode for the Exchange node when viewed via
the Exchange Manager MMC.

Maybe I'm the one who is off base- my take on the Exchange's HTTP
Virtual
Server is that *all* the configuration is supposed to be done via the
IIS
MMC; and for the most part, that works fine... But, you may be right-
they
(MS) may be expecting us to only be setting the MAIN site's config in
IIS
and the Exchange/Public settings in Ex2k MMC- I just don't think so...
