Check cables. Check MTU. Also check hardware interfaces to make sure they
match, as in 10/100 and half or full duplex. We recently had an issue were
we had a Cisco 2600 router fighting a Cisco 2950 switch each thinking the
other was in charge of auto-setting the port speed and duplex. We were
dropping packets like crazy. Once manually set to match on both ends,
everything worked fine. This was particularly noticable for us because we
were running VOIP over that interface. Dropped packets causes
retransmissions, which can quickly overwhelm a circuit, and is death for
VOIP services.

Should I be getting 88% dropped packets on my external nic. This is a test
server and only has one user attached.

I am also still having problem with a few websites. (Dell, Wal-Mart, Yahoo
inbox) Sometimes they work sometimes they do not. NsLookup works on all
these sites.

Could this dropped packets issue be the cause or does this just show that
the firewall is working correctly.
