In fact, we had a disk in an array go bad a few weeks ago. The red light was on, but the Dell cover blocked it. My admin had "turned off" the audible alert a year earlier when a disk went bad so they wound't have to hear it while rebuilding. Never turned it back on... We found out the disk was bad on reboot when we updated one of the Exchange boxes...
