Won't work. That is not the way SMTP works. An e-mail client, such as
Outlook express, must send to a SMTP server that is configured to accept for
it. While it is possible to configure the virtual SMTP service running on
ISA to accept outbound messages, that is not the way it is supposed to be
done. You must send outgoing e-mail from the e-mail client to/through the
appropriate server.

Let us say , it is running on the same machine as ISA 2K and it is one way
relay server, just used to send mail from some outlook express client (which
actully connects to ISA server IP on port 27).

Sorry, I did not read enough.

If you are talking about using ISA as a SMTP relay for an internal server,
you have to Publish the SMTP service on the ISA server to the outside world.

Hi John,

In advanced button, their are settings for HTTPS, FTP, GOPHER & SOCKS apart
from HTTP.

Secondly, how could my SMTP relay server can work with IE settings, when
working on same machine which is running ISA 2000.

Something missing ?

Thanks,

Prita, Pal

In IE, if you click on the Advanced button on Proxy, you will see a line for
items such as SMTP and so forth.

MessageI have a DSL connection on a Windows 2000 server box with two LAN
cards. After configuring the DSL Router , I am able to browse the Internet
on the box. But, after installing ISA 2000 server on this box, I am unable
to browse or make any type of connection to internet on this box, whereas I
am able to connect to Internet from any client after pointing to this ISA
server. What could be the error on my configuration ?

Thanks,
