Donna,
I don’t have the person call the dog when teaching this, either. what I
sometimes do, though, is to give the person a bell or a set of keys to jingle,
so I can then give the dog directions.
and, on a side note, I do proof on obedience with stays with people calling the
dog-not the dog’s name, though, just the random good boy, good dog, doggie,
etc, type of stuff.
hth,
Cait

One friend of mine says it's best not to encourage the person leading to call

who are calling it. Would you agree Shanna or do you have them call your dog
when teaching?

Subject: [IOTAList] Re: Follow Command
I basically teach "follow" the same way Julie does, so not much to add there.
One difference is that I save teaching the dog to follow another pedestrian
until the dog is almost done with training. I live in a pretty complicated
environment, so I want to make sure my dog understands how to guide well and
with confidence before I introduce the follow command. Especially because I
work a GSD who thinks following is the funnest game on earth.
