I'm pretty happy with the way things are now.  Alternatively, a
ScreenSaver type preferences app would not offend my sense of
aesthetic.

I think you'll find some backward thinker wants those fixed-size
knobs but we should not make them the default any more. :-)  I
used to use single arrows for a while until I saw the light, as well.
