Hm, this is bad, IMHO. But already in R1 ?
I'm not the app_server guy nor a graphic expert, but don't softcursors flicker ?

Yeah, this is another good reason against softcursor, that would also make 
BDirectWindow useless, in fact, it's useful only in windowed mode. In 
fullscreen mode, BWindowScreen is much faster and simpler to use.
