Have you turned on compression? I remember having had the same problem
some... er... years ago, and it's fine since using compression. The option
is `-zX' where X is a number indicating the strength of compression. 4 or
5 should be fine. For nice a `.cvsrc', you can use this as reference:

cvs -z4 -q
diff -u3 -p
update -dP
checkout -P
