I concede the loss of widget-drawing capability on the part of the
app_server. The lamentation was because, I thought it would be neat if
you could reroute calls to the app_server (from windows, widgets, et
cetera) across a network (and I guess XWin does this) and to an app_server
somewhere else. But I guess you can do that anyway (heh) -- just send
them to a different port, or, as BMessages instead... In any case, it's
not that hard at all.
On the other hand (something more important) -- has anyone figured out
what the o: threads are? -- I think we all know that the a: and the
w: threads are shadows for the apps and the windows.
My personal hypothesis is that the o: threads are shadows for specialized
widgets that need to bump off the app_server in the way that windows and
apps do, for example menus (which also happen to appear very nicely in the
workspaces app).
I wouldn't mind taking up the task of programming the shadow threads, once
I'm done with the stuff I'm doing now.
