[interfacekit] The time has come ...

On Monday morning I started in a new position with PalmSource, which I
am very excited about. PS has new technologies in the works that are
going to be very cool to work with. Not surprisingly -- given the
number of ex-Be folks there -- the people are also very cool to work
with. In general, it's an awesome move forward for me.
I am now also in a position where I have total access to the BeOS code
base. Which is cool because I can see how all this stuff was actually
done. And which is not so cool because it means that I will no longer
be able to work on Haiku anymore. Given my hectic work schedule this
last year, I haven't been able to do a whole lot any way, but it's sad
to have the door get shut. I don't see any harm in continuing
bug-fixing work on the stuff I've implemented to date -- thinking of
BMessage, in particular -- as long as I restrict it to that and for a
limited time. Before I started at PS, I basically finished up a paper
on the FOB1 format. I'll be polishing that up a bit and getting it
checked in soon; Axel and Ingo can use that to do a flattened-in-place
(for lack of a better term) implementation and rid themselves of the
template madness. ;)
It's been a lot of fun working with everybody; there are a lot of
amazing people on this project. I'll be keeping tabs on the community,
and continue hacking apps for Haiku when I have time (it's still the
best desktop OS out there in my mind), and thinking good thoughts for R1.
Thanks,
e
