Subject: New Adelaide Riverbank app launched as works begins on $900m Festival
Plaza redevelopment
Work has begun to transform the Adelaide Festival Plaza into a world-class hub
for the arts, culture, tourism and entertainment.
The first stage of works, the grade separation of Festival Drive, is now
underway. This crucial stage will separate vehicles travelling on Festival
Drive from pedestrians walking between the Adelaide Railway Station and the
Riverbank Footbridge. This will improve safety for all and is the first step
towards the creation of a fantastic new arcade connecting the Adelaide
Riverbank to the City.
The redevelopment of Festival Plaza will involve some temporary changes to
access and pathways to and from destinations within the Adelaide Riverbank.
It’s business as usual around the Festival Plaza and all venues and businesses
are still open, but you may need to take a different route than usual to get
there.
A new smartphone app has been launched to help people find their way around the
precinct during the construction period. The Adelaide Riverbank app
communicates project updates, and provides information about navigating around
the Adelaide Riverbank, events, activities and dining options. It contains maps
which will be updated as hoarding lines an access paths change over time.
The northern (Riverbank end) doors of the Adelaide Railway Station will close
from 6 December for approximately 12 months as part of the first stage of the
redevelopment. The station’s two entrances at North Terrace and the North
Terrace underpass will remain open. The Adelaide Festival Centre carpark will
close from 31 December to allow for the construction of the new car park.
Temporary changes to access will also be implemented along Station Road and
Festival Drive.
Information pods and maps in key locations throughout the Adelaide Riverbank
will also help people find their way. During key major events, volunteers will
be in and around the Adelaide Railway Station to help give directions to people.
The Riverbank Footbridge will remain open throughout the redevelopment however
pedestrians wanting to get to the Adelaide Oval will be redirected via King
William Road or via the temporary pedestrian bridge being built to the north of
the InterContinental Adelaide.
The Adelaide Riverbank app is available FREE at the Apple app
store<https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/adelaide-riverbank/id1174281621?mt=8>. An
Android version is being developed. More information on the Festival Plaza
project is available at the Adelaide Riverbank
