installing oracle8i needs lots of tweaks 2 be done.
u need 2 add a line to ur /etc/sysctl.conf
u calculate "ramsize in MB * 1024 * 1024 /2 "
now add the following line to sysctl.conf
kernel.shmmax = "result_of_ur_calculation"
//it shud read something like kernel.shmmax = nnnnnnnnnn;
and as root ,run
echo "result_of_ur_calculation" > /proc/sys/kernel/shmmax
try running ./runInstaller
