Hi,
I had Mandrake 8.2 running in my system till out of curiosity, I upgraded
to kde 3.02 from kde 2.x. The X server is now never stable. It works fine
till I don't open a "konsole" window and minimize it. If I minimize the
console window, I don't see it in the taskbar (unable to trace where it
goes). When I refresh the desktop the whole of taskbar vanishes and a
grey strip replaces the taskbar.
Under this condition, when I switch over to some other terminal
(ctrl+alt+f2...f6), the X-server crashes. Last few lines of
/var/log/XFree86 is not helpful. Of late, I discovered that after the
disappearance of taskbar, if I kill the previously opened konsole (using
run command), the X returns to normal till I don't open another konsole for
nth time (n is odd). Every time I open a konsole the nth time (where n is
odd), I get this problem.
After I kill the konsole, I get a message quotting "KDE Init could not
launch konsole-noxft".
Where could be the problem?
Advance thanks,
/
