Subject: [Ilugc] smallest linux
Message-ID: <20020717130802.22413.qmail@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
hi,
thanx for the replies. i'm sorry that my question was mistaken - i
didn't ask if we chop linux's size down, we can rename it into
something else (sorry kilaru, if that mail had hurt u). i was
asking about the smallest possible size of a woking linux KERNEL.
i was asking about how much any of u have managed to reduce the
size before the kernel no longer WORKED.
about tomsrtbt, yes i use it regularly too. (btw, saravanan, u r a
fan of the Lua language? plz mail me if yes). but i'm not
enquiring about any distribution.
with all 'extra' features removed
( like networking :-) )
and with only support for keyboard and virtual terminals, i got a
kernel size of 360KB (on kernel compilation). i didn't change any
code. linux is certainly more scalable than this - if any of u
have managed to reduce the SIZE OF THE KERNEL below this 360KB,
plz reply me.
if i haven't made myself clear, plz bear with me and mail me. i'll
explain in more detail.
anyone out there changed kernel code for some reason
successfully?
regards,
kiruba
