I have very little USB experience :) but I would try giving the
'nousb' option to the kernel while booting to see if that rectifies
it. If it does, its certainly to do with your new USB.
My camera would make the system hand when its connected to the USB and
switched on. Interestingly, i switched to a higher version of the
kernel and it worked. It could be a bug in your USB module. YMMV.
(Please dont send private replies. Ask the ILUGC list. For example,
if I'm making a mistake in this reply, there is too little chance for
it to get corrected (bad for both of us). While if this was sent to a
mailing list, its likely that somebody corrects the mistake.)
