deb is  an 'ar' archive, so you  can extract and play  with it. Please

The  only  issue  being  running the  {pre,post}{install,rm}  scripts,
etc.,.  AND those packages that are built with --whatever-dir=/etc/ or
somesuch in the package...  so that might become a pain.
