The client premise experiences frequent power outages.

I don't think the xfs situation has improved, and would not recommend
using it with unreliable power or hardware.  Unless you are exceeding
the limits of a tuned ext3/4, it's best not to move away from ext3/4.

The previous consultant company had done the install and config.; they  
chose XFS.

Btw, are you having all 6TB on a single file system?  Any file system
corruption can hose the entire volume and take a lot of data with it.

Yup, the entire 6TB (external array connected with FC to the file 
server) is XFS.  Another 3Ware array of 4TB was on XFS which I have 
reformatted to ext3.  On the 6TB device, the client has a lot of data 
that cannot be moved elsewhere and hence I am stuck with XFS until some 
additional storage is arranged for.
