Hmm... Which video format is that? I thought they all had pretty
crucial information at the beginning of the video file that you can't
just dd a bit off the middle and hope to get a snippet of the video.

There isnt much of a difference. Both adhere to mpeg standards.

In a video you typically have 25 frames a second if it is PAL. In mp3, it is 38 
frames per second.

It is possible to do it and get away. But audio/video engineers would frown at 
you. 

It is not a clean way of doing it but it can be done.
