I have disabled SELinux while installing
[root@snmoorthy ~]# sestatus
SELinux status: disabled
[moorthy@snmoorthy ~]$ id -Z
Sorry, --context (-Z) can be used only on a selinux-enabled kernel.
The file size and contents (checked with diff) of /etc/skel/* and in
my home directory are smae.
Regards
Moorthy

you are able to log into X as root? then when u r on the command lineAnd lose all customizations, bashrc et al? I wouldn't do that!
try this "cp /etc/skel/.* ~/" and then startx
You might just be missing the startup files for gnome/kde/...
Move all your dotfiles before trying this, if you don't want to lose
your customization.
