If you are going for AMD Athlon series, then it is fine. You can use
your existing Windows or Linux binaries on it. AMD Opteron series need
distributions for IA64 to get the most out of the processor. But
remember AMD Opteron series can operate in 32 bit mode too.
is AMD x86 architecture too? can i use it for x86
embedded linux development tools?
As I said AMD Kx, Duron, Athlon series processors are IA32 or x86. You
can very well use it.
