Dear Friends 16-10-2002
I am looking out for Redhat linux version 7.0 on a DEC Alpha
machine. If you people can help me in downloading the software, I will be
grateful to one and all. If it is available with any of you, can you pls.
lend it to me for a day or so.
The last redhat alpha port is 7.1. Redhat has stopped supporting the
alpha port since then. By choosing redhat, you will be left out on
Can I recommend Debian instead? I run three alpha server 800s at work
all running Debian and it has much to recommend.
On the same note, I've also tried debian on several sun hardware, sgi
indy and a titanium macintosh with great success. Debian is the linux of
choice on non-x86 platforms.
Debian network install (boot using dhcp/bootp + tftp) on an alpha is very
easy. You'll only need a single 4MB tftpboot.img file to get the
installer started, and the base debian system is about 30MB.
See the installation instructions for alpha at -
